Bridal Resource Guide: 1999 Puget Sound Edition
Published in Paperback by Bravo Pubns (01 January, 1999)
Average review score:

very useful and informativethis is, i think, the only guide to services in the greater seattle area. it had some good suggestions, even for second-time brides like me. i wish it had some kind of a rating system for prices, as many of the places state "prices vary, call for more information." at least the guide could give us some kind of an idea, so that i know if it fits in the general parameters of my budget. on the whole, its a much better investment than buying all of those heavy and goofy bridal magazines.
Great resource for Puget Sound area brides!I recently was married and think this book is a great resource for those trying to plan a wedding in the puget sound area. You can find your ceremony/reception site, caterer, florist, etc.! I used the book to find my site and it is a great help in weeding out those you wouldn't want because it lists each place by max. capacity, price, and other limitations that will help you find the place that is right for you. I would suggest this book to any puget sound bride!

Champion in a Man's World: The Biography of Marion Hollins
Published in Hardcover by Sleeping Bear Press (July, 1998)
Average review score:

Terrific life story of this "can do" woman athlete.Marion Hollins' life story is an amazing series of accomplishments, crowned by her design work at Cypress Point and Pasatiempo Golf Clubs. This is a 'must read' for Central Coast people who want to learn more about how Marion's dedication and determination influenced the formation of Pebble Beach and Pasatiempo during the '20s and '30s. Her tragic ending at an early age leaves the reader wondering what more she could have accomplished had she lived a bit longer.
A women of action, a women who made her dreams come true.Marion Hollins is by far one of the most accomplished persons in American history. Her story is motivating and incredible. For anyone who doubts their ability to succeed, this is a must read.

Classical Electromagnetic Radiation
Published in Hardcover by Brooks Cole (01 November, 1994)
Average review score:

The former review is for the wrong book.Hi folks I just wrote this to caution you that the former reviewer is inadverently reviewing the MECHANICS book by the same author. To be short I would give this book four stars. It does a little bit of static phenomena and boundary value problems and jumps to radiation justifying the title. The level of the book is in between a grad course and an undergrad course. I think it is ideal for self study for grad students.
Challenging but well worth the effort for motivated studentsAn excellent textbook on classical dynamics for the 'grown-up' student who wants mathematical rigor along with physical insights. Working through this book requires considerable effort and thought on the student's part, but is well worth the time spent. Highly recommended for the serious student who is not afraid of hard work.

The Deception (Daughters of Mannerling/Marion Chesney, Vol 3)
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (April, 1999)
Average review score:

Enjoyable readingThings sure were different in the early 1800s. This book is always interesting and it seems to give a good portrayal of how life was a couple hundred years ago.
"The Deception" was a book not to be put down!I am an avid reader of Chesney novels - the only fiction that I do read. She spins such believable tales that I long to be in Regency England! You will not put this, nor any other Chesney novel down.

Scary storyI picked this up at a used book store and it was well worth it. As a mom, I found this book very scary. I couldn't wait to see how it would come out in the end. I highly recommend it!
Favorite Book Ever!I read this book when I was in the eighth grade and I remember never putting it down once I had picked it up! The suspense, the chills, everything about it kept my eyes glued.
If you want a thrilling book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then I highly recommend this one.
It's too bad Rosen's books are out of print, but buy them used because they are well worth reading!

Exchanges for All Occasions
Published in Paperback by International Diabetes Center (15 January, 2000)
Average review score:

Help for People with DiabetesI was diagnosed with diabetes just two weeks ago. The dietician at our local hospital introduced me to this book. It is a wonderful resource for tracking consumption of carbohydrates. I look forward to using this book on a daily basis. It is easy to understand and contains volumes of information, for a very small price.
Exchanges for All Occasions (Pocket Edition)What a God-send! The book the nutritionist gave me was too big to take anywhere conveniently and was entirely too broad in it's listings. This shows so many of my favorite foods that I know planning meals for my "new-to-me" diabetic diet is going to be a snap!

Florida Landscape Plants: Native and Exotic
Published in Paperback by University Press of Florida (T) (December, 1986)
Average review score:

Florida Landscape PlantsThis is a worthwhile book for a number of reasons, however, it has one major omission. The positive factors: 1) Excellent plant descriptions including details like salt tolerance level; 2) wonderful (and most appreciated) treatment of botanic names by giving the pronunciation and derivation of the Latin words (Thanks!). The omission concerns color photographs of the plants discussed. The publisher included a few color pages of plant drawings which are mostly useless and confusing. A good garden book needs to have extensive color photographs. I am sure that the author would agree!!
The absolute last word on Florida Landscape Plants! This is the text book used to teach horticulture classes and plant identification at the University of Florida. All Horticulture graduates and Landscape Architecture graduates at UF have studied from this book. Dr.s Watkins and Sheehan have put more than 5 decades of combined Florida horticultural expertise into this book.

Telling: Confessions, Concessions, and Other Flashes of Light
Published in Audio Cassette by Random House (Audio) (March, 1994)
Average review score:

Baby-boomer memoirs without shame, remorse, or guiltThis book could have been written by Irma Bombeck . . . except that Irma Bomback would never have written about having an abortion, shooting heroin, or oral sex in the front seat of a car. Essentially, Winik writes about what happens when the generation who never trusted anyone over thirty now finds itself trapped at forty-something. Her reflections and insights are remarkable for their transparancy. Winik neither takes us on a nostalgic romp through "Gee, wasn't it great back then!", nor does she moralize from hindsight with "Here's what I did; here's what I learned; maybe you can benefit from my experience." Instead she just describes what is: what it's like to be forty-something and come to grips with one's history. I laughed, I cried, and I couldn't put the book down.
I must have writen this book one night while sleeping.I picked up "telling" only yesterday from Barnes n nobles bargin stacks. (I was only searching non-fiction in my quest to learn more about the history of why).
Even though I am already operating on sleep deprivation from my one year old and working all night and day lifestyle I could not put "telling" down (a RARE RARE, so RARE i can't even remember when I plowed through a book with such joy and amazement). I'm endlessly searching for those voices of comradioure (sp?), and have sifted through zillions of books looking for it, for that voice that speaks as if it were my own.
Marion winik is this voice, but she's not, she appears to be 'just like me', but it's really just the seductiveness of her writing style, the ease at which she tells it, the way she's managed to take all of the hopeless fiascos we make of our lives and laugh them into o.k. now-ness. There is tradgedy, which she doesn't hide from, and small bits of philosophizing, but most of all its just a back and forth journey through the times of her life (which is so similar to our lives-from the fat and awkward childhood, to the artsy drug-rebelling adolescent, to the station-wagon driving mom in a condominium with a microwave).
The real stuff is here, the events of life, unfolding through the ages, just like us. Even though my father is still alive, I'm not jewish and i've never been to new orleans, I'm still just like Marion Winik.
Marion Winik rocks!Marion Winik is one of the best authors I personally have ever read. I've read (consumed might be a better word..lol) all of her books now and each one only furthers my belief in her writing. She even took the time to personally answer a letter I had written her, which only made me like her more. She's a great author and I will continue to read her works over and over again..
